How it works for schools

  1. Register a project

Tell us what you need the laptops for, how many, and any spec requirements.

  2. We list it

Your project appears on our schools in need page for companies to see.

  3. We deliver

When a company donates, we drop the laptops to your school. You take it from there.

Before you apply

  • Requests must come from a teacher or school leader, not parents.
  • Laptops must be used for tamariki in an education setting. How you use them is up to you: classroom sets, loans, or giving them to students and whānau.
  • Laptops are second-hand and arrive reset. Your school handles setup, for example with ChromeOS Flex.
  • Demand is high. Some projects fill in weeks, others take months.

Questions from schools

What happens to the laptops?

Laptops go to schools registered with The Laptop Drop. The only requirements are that a teacher or school leader requests them and that they're used for tamariki in an education setting. We leave the details to the educators. Schools use them as extra classroom devices, year-long student loans, or give them directly to students and whānau.

Can I register for my own child?

Sadly no, but if you talk to your child's teacher, they can register a project for the school. Other organisations supply devices directly to children and families.

What's the minimum spec for ChromeOS Flex?

4 GB RAM, 16 GB internal storage, able to boot from USB, and full administrator access to the BIOS.

How long will it take to get laptops?

It depends on what companies have available. Demand from schools is high, so some projects fill in weeks and others take months. We keep your project listed until it's filled.
